Xpedition Chattanooga is a one-day endurance adventure designed to test your limits while showcasing the very best of the city.

Part fitness challenge. Part adventure race.

This is not a fixed-course race. It’s a choose-your-own-path competition across Chattanooga’s most iconic terrain - where strategy, grit, and adaptability matter as much as fitness.

What Is Xpedition?

Xpedition Chattanooga is a one-day, choose-your-own-path endurance event that blends fitness, strategy, and adventure across the city.

Instead of a fixed course, athletes tackle a menu of point-based challenges - deciding where to go, what to take on, and how to most effectively utilize their time.

Who This Is For

  • Triathletes -Put your training to the test and see how well-rounded your fitness really is.

  • CrossFit / HYROX Athletes -Take your strength and engine outside the gym and into real terrain.

  • Endurance Athletes -Trail runners, ultra athletes, cyclists - this race hits every system, not just mileage.

  • Specialists Who Want a Broader Test - If you’re great at one thing and curious how you’ll perform across many, this is your event.

  • Weekend Warriors -Grab a friend, form a team, and take on a challenge you’ll be talking about for years.

Not for: anyone looking to stay comfortable, avoid the outdoors, or skip a real challenge.

How It Works (High Level)

  • No fixed course

  • To kick off the event, athletes complete a defined “buy-in” challenge that includes a ~2 mile run across the bridges + functional fitness movements in key spots

  • Following completion of the buy-in, athletes unlock the Challenge Menu with point-based tasks around the city

  • Complete challenges in any order, within the event window

  • Earn points based on difficulty and completion

  • Strategy matters

More challenges completed = more points.

The Challenge Menu

Xpedition Chattanooga features a menu of physical challenges spread across the city.

Following completion of the “buy-in” challenge, athletes choose which challenges to take on and are not required to complete every item. Expect a mix of endurance, strength, and skill-based challenges.

Challenges currently planned include:

  • Trail run loop on Stringer’s Ridge

  • Multi-mile paddle on the Tennessee River

  • Hit a pitch at Erlanger Park (NEW Lookouts stadium)

  • Functional fitness workouts hosted by local CrossFit gyms

  • Ruck up Lookout Mountain

  • Score a goal in Finley Stadium & run stadium steps

  • Climb a cliff wall

  • Endurance bike segment along the riverwalk

Additional challenges will be announced between now and event day. Final challenges may be adjusted as the event approaches.

Better Together

Xpedition is more fun - and more effective - with people you know.

Athletes register and are scored as individuals, but you’re encouraged to sign up with a friend or recruit others to take on the day together.

There is also a team competition:

  • Teams of 3 athletes or co-ed team of 2

  • Team score = combined score of all three athletes

Compete individually. Get Scored Together. Execute Better.

Live Competition

Expect a real-time leaderboard that will update throughout the day, tracking individual and team standings as the event unfolds.
